When The New Chapter Brings Light Instead of Darkness

Filed Under: Motivated Moms Tagged With: working mom 13 Comments

Today marks a new chapter. I’m already driving down the prairie highway or maybe I am sitting in my new office. Either way after 10 years of my previous working mom career today is the first day of a new chapter. I’ve had new chapters before in life. When new chapters of life begin they often occur under circumstances beyond our control. The page turns when we are in a dark moment and the ability to keep moving forward seem impossible. Those are the hardest chapters to start. They are behind me for now.Β
Today’s chapter is different. This chapter is filled with light, figuratively as I feel joyful and literally as the prairie sunrise comes up over the snow-free grasslands.

When we are able to turn a page into a new life chapter by choice and under circumstances that fill us with joy, the new chapter starts with an upbeat tone and the story continues with excitement.

For the past ten days, I have spent every day with our kids and family. We have had long naps, visits to cousins, friends, grandparents, great-grandparents and to our favorite 106 year old Aunt Iris. It’s been an easy transition from one chapter to the next in life. An interlude of sorts.

Last night, Hunter came home from practice to sit down for supper. We talked about this week’s two home games and I felt a flood of peace knowing I am going to be at his games this week and all season. I would not have been around for these moments if it weren’t for this new chapter. When I tucked each of the girls into bed I told them I was leaving early today before they awake but that I would meet them at Hunter’s game tonight and then we’d go home together. Despite leaving behind many treasured clients, connections and fabulous friends, this new chapter starts now, filled with promise, an early prairie sunrise of bright light and knowing new chapters can start with the feeling of peacefulness.

Good luck with this new chapter. Changing your life can be exciting…and scary but I’m so glad that this chapter is already filled with light for you. May your first day be a wonderful one!

Enjoy! I would not have traded my 10 years at home with the kids for anything. And although I work full time now that the youngest is in school, it only entails 8 days a month. Still it is weird to tell them, “I won’t be at your game/award/field trip so look for Daddy.” Glad you get to be there for everything!

Best of everything in your new chapter. Enjoy your kids when you can. They grow up way too fast. (I just wish I knew what you were doing in your knew chapter. I must have missed that post.) πŸ™‚
My Dad has been talking a lot about the North Dakota prairie lately so I have been thinking of you and Val and Roxanne.

Katie, I’m looking forward to hearing more! I’m intrigued, and excited for you. I’m in a very similar place of exciting change. More on that soon as well.

I love how you talk so lovingly of the prairie. I feel the same way about it, now that I’m grown up enough to appreciate it. πŸ™‚

Katie, I am anxious to hear more about your new journey! Although it was good, my big sister advice to you is…don’t look back, it’s not the direction you are going. πŸ™‚ Good luck little sister…you will rock!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
