WW w/ linky: How to pick a pumpkin on the prairie

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Life in North Dakota Tagged With: agriculture, family activities, North Dakota, prairie, pumpkin patch, rural life 15 Comments

Picking out a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch is an important job.
Agreeing on one is another issue between 2 year old and 3 1/2 year old sisters.

Sometimes it is better to go on your separate ways and pick your own. Everyone is happier then.
Thanks to Daddy and Auntie Lori for bringing on the girls to the Oakes, North Dakota pumpkin patch on a sunny prairie Sunday afternoon.
Here’s where I’ve been spending quite a bit of time in the last week, in the skies in between several business meetings. I’m home now, took a lovely nap with the girls today and just finished baking Southern Oatmeal cookies (recipe tomorrow) with the kids.
What are you enjoying most about Fall? Pumpkins? Crisp weather? Crunching leaves?
Link up your Wordy or Wordless Wednesday below. I always try to visit at least 5 others to connect with new blogs and visit favorites. Thanks linking up and if you are a new follower please let me know.
Happy WW!

Adorable! We grew our own pumpkins this year, quite by accident. The Rev. kicked a pumpkin off our porch when we had early snow last year, and it rotted and then sprouted this summer. I let one plant live and it took over my flower bed and half of the lawn. We got three pretty decent pumpkins out of it, and I learned that pumpkins grow on their sides, which is why they are not usually perfectly round! We still had to visit Papa’s Pumpkin Patch anyway…too much fun to miss! Thank you for sharing your family with us readers!

I was at Potter’s Way in Oakes on Friday! We’re putting them in our October 2012 issue of Dakota Valley News. 🙂 Wish I could’ve just gone on the same day as the girlies–they make every photo better looking!

Looks like an enjoyable time. My kids use to love going to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins for fall. The school would take a field trip and it was always enjoyable to watch the smallest kid try to pick up the biggest pumpkin. 🙂

Looks like such a great time at the pumpkin patch. That was always a favorite activity of mine when my kids were younger.

Where did you get those super cute outfits? Love it. I just love the “smell” of fall. Does that seems weird? To me the smell of fall is a mix of dried leaves, corn dust and sweet apples hanging on the tree.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
