Fall Decorating with Wheat

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: home, North Dakota, prairie living 9 Comments

Have you caught the Pinterest bug? It’s a virtual pin board allowing you to organize recipes, home decorating ideas, outfit ideas, quotes, wedding ideas or whatever interests you have from items you find and see on the internet. I haven’t spent a lot of time pinning but I started a Fall Decor board. I was looking for decorating ideas using what I have around me like the wheat fields, sunflowers, corn, pumpkins and more.

The wheat decor reminds me of our October wedding with wheat that my mom spent weeks (maybe months) five years ago preparing for and it was stunning.

The pins I made on Pinterest are more practical to what and how I might use wheat in our home today versus the huge amount of wheat we used in our October wedding. But I still have a wheat wreath hanging from 5 years ago saved from our wedding.

The wheat was gathered and all assembled by my mom from our family farm fields. The photos were taken by Dr. Keith and Rennae Millette on our wedding day.

In the fall you see a lot of decorating done with pumpkins but I always love wheat decorations.

We still have a few of the wheat centerpieces made from wooden blocks from my husband’s family lumberyard business combined with my family’s wheat, a perfect melding for our wedding.

My love for wheat has made it into our home over the past five years from the wall…

to the front door.

Wheat fields on the prairie surround us in the summer months, reminding me of where I come from and my love of the land.

What are fall decorations are you using in and around your home?

I love all of these! If I wasn’t such a laze I’d totally be all over the wreath!

I LOVE these wheat decorations! Wheat is one of my fave crops – maybe because we grow so much of it on our family farm. I joined Pinterest a little while ago but haven’t had time to pin anything yet. I’ve heard it’s very addicting.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
