Wordless Wednesday: Summer Sunflowers w/ linky

Filed Under: Life in North Dakota Tagged With: family fun, North Dakota, prairie, prairie life, rural life 12 Comments

I bought the sunflower wall hanging at the Heritage Arts Gallery & Gifts in Michgan (town not state), North Dakota this past weekend. I hung it today on the wall (below what I now see as crooked wooden wheat pieces). Then the girls got the idea tonight we needed to go see “real sunflowers”.

After eating our corn on the cob from the garden along with Miss Leah’s recipe for Lemon Basil Chicken that we grilled, Daddy went to a hospital board meeting. Big brother went to rest and recover from a long day of football practice. The girls and I packed up and drove just a few miles west of our prairie home until we found…

 fields and fields of sunflowers.
Miss E asked if we could run in them, pick them, take a few home, put some in a vase and she also requested we eat a few. I told her they weren’t ours to take and that she had to stay put. Miss A scolded her and said “not ours Ebee”.  Regardless if we can pick the sunflowers or not, we are surrounded by sunflowers on the prairie and summer is glorious.

What’s a glorious moment of your summer?

Dude. Where were those when it was yellow week for the Crazy Days of Summer? I can’t tell you how many hours I drove around searching for a field of yellow flowers. I think I may have even dreamt of sunflowers. That is a beautiful view! And good for you for seizing the moment. Happy WW!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
