dOur Miss A, Anika Iris Kathryn, turned two years old today. I have blogged her life since I announced my pregnancy on here and many of you feel a connection to Anika with out even meeting her. Amazing how blogs do that. Here is a brief photo recap of our special day. Starting with this fun pillow I purchased on Etsy for her. With a name like Anika, you don’t just find every day items with your name on them but handmade, custom items are especially fun. Hilariously, my mom gave a rug today to Anika for her birthday that she purchased at Ikea that perfectly coordinates with the pillow and Anika’s room. We think alike without communicating.
It was a low key day at home. My mom was here and thankfully so. I was a walking zombie from a long week. My mom and I drank coffee from my favorite Sacramento coffee shop, Temple Coffee & Tea, that I brought home last night. With the girls, we did errands around town, grocery shopped, stopped by daycare to visit the kids since Nana had made special treats to share with the kids and I took a long nap with the girls. Hunter mowed the lawn and had batting practice. It was a lovely day. But by afternoon, unfortunately, Anika was slightly under the weather with a low grade fever.
She still managed to smile.
In the morning and at lunch when Daddy was home, we opened a few presents. Mama Jane had some new clothes and shoes for Anika.
Miss E shopped with me last weekend and managed to keep the doll house a secret all week. Anika was thrilled. Miss E will be “helping” her play daily with the doll house.
Tonight we had a big family meal at our house with both sets of grandparents and my brother Robbie joining us. It was a rare moment that my dad and brother could leave the farm in the summer but thankfully they had three sprayers going and finished the barley to have a break to come tonight.
Nana made a special yellow Pooh cake that of course was divine.
Family moments like this are my absolute favorite and Nathan paused tonight to thank everyone for coming. Having birthday parties with both sets of grandparents is quite special for any child.
Hunter took the camera and snapped a series of photos that I will cherish for years to come of Anika with her cake as everyone sang to her.
Grandpa Eldon and Nana brought Anika a tricycle with pedals which made her smile from ear to ear. Unfortunately, her fever kicked back up so we had are keeping it down with Tylenol and I rocked her quite some time tonight. I hope she rests tonight and kicks this quickly. The end of the day had us in the kitchen cleaning up and in the living room visiting as we looked out to the east we saw…
a stunning site.
A full rainbow (and look closely for the double) for our sweet Miss Anika’s 2nd birthday across the prairie sky after a rain shower. It was a perfect ending to the evening.
Happy Birthday to our sweet and sincere Miss Anika who brightens our every day. We love you.
