Nathan and I had a date night this past weekend. The kids stayed with Auntie Kirsti and Uncle Mike for 24 hours while we went to my friend and colleague, Susan, and her husband, Rodney’s farm and vineyard near Buffalo, ND.
Red Trail Vineyard was host to the 5th annual North Dakota Grape and Wine Festival.
Our visit supported many things I love: agriculture, agri-tourism and small business.
But the best part was enjoying a beautiful Saturday afternoon with no schedule or set plan with my husband.
Of course Nathan and I didn’t take any pictures of ourselves on our date night but above is me with my friend and co-worker Carina.
The blue grass music and grape stomp made the event grand–and worth our 140 mile drive!
From the vineyard we drove into Fargo for sushi, a movie and used Hilton points for a free night’s stay in a local hotel. Sunday morning we had a brunch date with Nathan’s sister Lori who now lives just 50 miles from Fargo.
Every couple needs a 24 hour date every so often and I think Nathan and I will make an annual visit to Red Trail Vineyard for the North Dakota Grape and Wine Festival.
By the time we returned to Kirsti and Mike’s on Sunday, Hunter had grown over night, catching up to my 6’4″ tall sister. Police officer Mike overnight had also saved three sleeping college students from a house fire. Of course it was all in a day’s work and we didn’t learn about it until he was making news headlines in North Dakota about his work and service. We are proud of you Mike!
Anika loved her time with Auntie K.
Elizabeth hopes for a return visit soon so she can eat more chocolate cake and drink strawberry milk for her afternoon snack.
And most certainly, Nathan and I will schedule in more “off the prairie” date nights in the future.
