The joys of growing little girls

Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

It’s late and I have been working. But I love being in the quiet house where I know upstairs each of our kids are healthy, peaceful and sleeping. Plus another bedroom with a healthy, non-snoring husband who is fast asleep but surely has left a light for me (so much better than Motel 6 leaving the light for you).
It isn’t often that our house is this quiet.
Especially when this girl is awake!
E’s birthday was over a month ago but the celebrating continues.
She is still singing to her Cinderella music birthday card from my Aunt Holly. Elissa keeps in on the kitchen counter near her booster seat so she can always reach it and as you can see it is pure entertainment.
We made pancakes together on Saturday morning. E just kept stirring saying, “But where’s da pancakes?”
She also dumped in the milk when I turned around for a split second. She is quite the helper.
This just melted me. Elissa was watching her favorite “counting Ernie” movie and holding Anika’s hand while watching. She loves loves loves her sister…so much that the moment I turned around to put the camera down, E was saying “Ahdeka a horsey!” Oh yes, she was sitting on her back for less than two seconds before I pulled her off.
Anika didn’t mind her sister jumping on her back but she isn’t up for much hand-holding with her sister. Anika likes her hands free to play these days. She is much more active now and loves her toys. She is changing every day. Anika’s diet now includes…carrots. I pulled out the Baby Beaba (my magical homemade baby food maker…every mom needs one) and started making baby food last week. Tomorrow we are going to try sweet potatoes and then onto new veggies. Yes and some fruit too. Bananas first.
One thing that hasn’t changed about Anika yet but soon will is her lack of teeth. She is drooling constantly now, chewing on anything she can but still not complaining. Calm, cool, collected but teething. Our sweet baby girl is growing up so quickly.
Off for me to join the peacefully sleeping crew upstairs.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
