Christmas on the prairie

Enjoy a photo recap of our Christmas celebration.
We have been feasting through Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Only the brave last night ventured to try the old Norwegian tradition of lutefisk.
Hunter was one of those brave ones.
Kirsti did not sell Mike on lutefisk. But Mike eats plenty of everything else!
Elizabeth learned about the time it takes to get Christmas beautiful for church.
She was not impressed or agreeable.
Smiles for Hunter’s Christmas Eve program at church
After church, we had our own little program at home.
And then…
we heard jingle bells in the chimney. Down came Santa!
Santa made Miss E smile when he delivered her candy corn, a much desired Christmas gift.
Does it surprise anyone that Nathan was very excited to give Elizabeth her first power tools?
Everyone on my side of the family received Huso Lukens Cattle & Grain aprons.
Today we had a sleepy morning and then opened Santa gifts.
It was (and still is) a blizzard outside but the fire is so delightful and the day has been a fabulous feast! First we had a brunch in which Auntie Lori made Eggs Benedict for all of us. Tonight Gma Carol made a huge turkey and ham dinner with all the sides and pumpkin pie. We are staying active by…

shoveling snow drifts. All the major interstates are closed in a three state area. Being snowed in together has brought us hours of entertainment with the kids and hours of playing on the new Wii. Yes the Pinke household now has a gaming system. Miracles do happen as Hunter would tell you.
The howling wind and snow did not keep Elizabeth off the porch for a few minutes with her big brother. She just had to see what this Christmas blizzard was made of and then she quickly retreated back to her playing in her new kitchen (to be shared with her sister in future years).
Merry Christmas to each of you. It has been a joyous celebration for us, full of memories. We are blessed and grateful. And we miss those of you who could not join us this year!

Yummy I LOVE Lutefisk!!!!! What a great tradition!! We do it on both of my sides of the family so I get it usually 2 times at Christmas, but Ry’s side doesn’t have it at all!! I can’t get Ry to try it either. My kids have both tried it at least once.

Looks like a wonderful Christmas at the Pinke household. You are truly blessed to have such a loving and close family. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures and reading the stories.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
