I always love to joke that I married a “band boy”.
Nathan was not just a band boy. He was a superb and stand out trombone player. It brought him many accolades and most importantly a college scholarship. And he was not in a marching band uniform in college. He was at a small private college wearing a tuxedo playing in a concert band. This weekend there was an alumni band reunion at Nathan’s college. Together the concert band combined with the alumni created a 205 member band.
It was quite a sight and an amazing sound.
Nathan loved his time and the weekend. Hunter, Nathan’s parents and I also loved the concert. (Elizabeth and Anika had an evening of play and fun with our longtime friends Beth, Scott and boys!)
Nathan and I exchange jabs all the time about larger universities versus small colleges. My experience versus Nathan’s. Neither one is wrong and both were very different. Both Nathan and I had awesome college experiences. What I will say about Nathan’s experience is with some practice and preparation, Nathan was taken back to his college days this weekend. To see that happen for alumni from 1953 to 2009 was remarkable. Their bond is Concordia College band and last night they all came together and created beauitfully exquisite music. Music stays with you for a lifetime.
There is not chance with some practice and preparation I will ever be able to have a college athletic moment again. They are memories. But for our band boy, it all came back for him and he had his moment. Nathan said to me “I’m a band MAN, not a band boy…and I know you think this is cheesy but I don’t care.” The camaraderie, the loyalty to the college and commitment to music was not cheesy. It was impressive. And I was a proud band man’s wife.

I LOVE it!! I tease Jason about the same thing, being a “band geek”. He also played in a concert band while at a very small college. He traveled all over the place (including Hawaii) with the band so I guess I don’t have much room for teasing. Plus, he still plays the drums and makes a nice little cash income on the weekends for doing something that he loves. So glad you guys had a fun weekend!

I believe we called them ‘band geeks’ in school . . . but then as a ‘Choir Boy’ I don’t suppose I can say too much. Glad Nathan was able to take time to be in the alumni band; wish I was closer!
