3 month stats & the daycare for dog exchange

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: Charlie, dog child, family pets 3 Comments

I went back to work so of course what happened? Anika got sick. With a little fever and a runny nose, she went to our local clinic today. I cannot say enough about how convenient and absolutely wonderful it is that we have a local clinic and hospital in our small, isolated town, fully staffed with a local doctor, physician assistants, nurse practitioner, etc. I called at 10:25AM and she got in for an appointment right away. Thank goodness for healthcare in rural America! With out getting into the heated healthcare debate, I will say that we need efficient and accessible health care and I am grateful that we have it that way in our town.

How did Anika check out? Her ears, lungs, throat were all perfect. It is just her first cold. But Nathan and I feel better knowing that this weekend and will not be worrying if Anika has an ear infection. And the nurse and PA both said they gave Anika full permission to still attend our neighbor’s son’s wedding tonight which both of them will be there also. The nurse said “I’ll babysit so you can dance!” Ha, very funny…they assume that we would actually be able to stay out late enough for the dance to begin! Sleep is more important to us than dancing at this stage of our life. Actually I think the dancing stage of my life disappeared with my 20’s. I digress. Back to Anika.
Anika weighed 12 lbs. 15 oz. and was 24 1/2″ in length. At 3 months, she weighs just over a pound more than she did exactly one month ago today at her 2 month check up and was a 1/2″ longer. However measuring her length was a toss up because she was to busy kicking to actually get her legs totally straightened out to measure.

Both girls spent the day at with their Nana (Gma Carol) today. I trade with Carol…the kids for the dog during my work days from home. No it is not an even trade. Most days Anika is with Gma Carol and E is at her home daycare. But on certain occasions (those fruit basket upset daycare days) both girls get to be with Nana.
You might remember Charlie the dog child has a joint custody situation, as he is Nathan’s dog living with Nathan’s parents. Charlie comes with me now and stays at our house during my work days from home. He is very limited on his area he can roam in the house but loves getting to run in the fields by our house a few times each day. And we have a huge new dog bed for him. Hunter asked “Mom has Charlie been on this bed yet?” With my back turned, I replied “Not yet.” Hunter had been holding Anika for me and said “Oh good!”.

Hunter thought the new dog bed was a perfect place for his baby sister to snuggle in. Not wanting to miss out on the action, Elissa quickly dashed over to join them.

All three agreed it would be a suitable resting place for the dog child.

And Anika did not get too long of a rest before her big sister insisted on taking away her nuk!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
