Pajama time

Filed Under: Uncategorized Leave a Comment

Updated at 8:48AM…I had to add two pieces of advice I just received this morning from a local woman who commented on my baby belly size. She first noted that wasn’t my due date not until July and yes I explained I was measuring four weeks ahead of schedule. Then her comment was:
“Well, have you been eating too much?”
My reply was “ugh no I have not gained any more weight than I have with my two other kids”. Next comment:
“Do you know you need to exercise? You really have to keep that up, that is important you know.”
My reply “Yes I know about exercise and I still have been walking every day.”
In case I had not already received that much needed advice in a news flash, health class beginning in grade school, from the decade of track coaches I had, the personal trainer I paid to keep me in shape in my working life, my healthy family members and friends, or of all people my medical doctor, I now know:
DO NOT eat too much and be sure to exercise. So, ladies keep this pertinent advice top of mind!
Okay back to pajama time…
Last weekend the piano that Nathan and Lori grew up playing was moved over to our house as Carol and Eldon are moving along with their house remodeling. The piano has a new home in my office/ our family piano room. Hunter is on a summer break from lessons but found some old music of mine and has been playing for fun. Elizabeth climbs up onto the piano bench and plays, then hollering for others to come join her.
Elissa does understand why Hunter gets to stay outside, play and this particular night watch local baseball games and she has to get ready for bed. The days are very long now on the northern plains. There is light in the sky at 10:30PM and again by 4:30AM. I of course know this because I am up at all hours!

This is what Elissa thought of my idea of mixing the Cream of Wheat instant high fiber cereal into her oatmeal. Hot cereal is a great way for us to mix in milk, getting her to get the nutrition from milk with out her having to drink the dreaded beverage. I thought some extra whole grain and fiber would be yummy too. Then I turned my back to make toast and I heard Elissa say “no no no”. Gpa Fred needs to work on her a little like he did for me for a couple decades to get her to LOVE high fiber hot cereal with little sugar!

Yesterday I bought Ovaltine and we are going to try that in a cup of milk!

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
