Sara & Katie…a transformation

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: friendship 6 Comments

Last weekend in a hurried fashion I got to see my forever friend Sara over a quick lunch that was all about our kids and certainly not about us. We have been friends for…28 years. We are both are expecting babies this year within seven weeks of one another. Sara in May and me in July. You might recall Sara and Scott had their first child, Sam just a couple days after our wedding in 2006. Through all of our years of sleepovers, playing school, playing dolls, bike riding, swimming, Bible camps, Sunday School programs, piano playing, movie watching, baking, party planning and pizza eating, I never thought of Sara and I having babies together. But it was really fun for me when she emailed pictures yesterday of our quick get together. I clicked open on the attached pictures. There we were standing together just as happy as expectant mothers as we were as carefree children.
Just take a quick look at the transformation through the years of us…
Just completed setting up my Christmas tree in my bedroom as carefree and happy kids…
Singing a duet together in our homemade Christmas dresses sewn by our mothers. Sara could carry the tune and I could follow. She looked perfect. And thankfully you cannot see my gigantic blue glasses too well in this picture. I was trying to be Sally Jesse Raphael as a young girl. Not pretty.

Last weekend…cute baby bellies! Now as happy mommies.

(thankfully over a couple decades I lost the huge glasses)

You two are both beautiful. As they say, “Life long friends are life’s real gems.”

Thanks for those old memories. I hope our children will have the kind of long friendships that we have.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
