Bread and water

When you have kids a decade a part in age, you quickly forget all of the little joys toddlers find in the simplest of things. Most recently one of these joys for Elizabeth is picking raisins out of raisin bread. Raisins removed and eaten first, then the bread can be eaten, plain.
Officially the cheesy smile has happened. She even says “cheeezzz”.

And water tastes better when it comes from her miniature measuring cup. Daddy worried that it wasn’t clean (he must have known it came from Ebay). It was fresh from the dishwasher. And she will chug down twice as much water from that little cup than any other cup.

Shaggy hair…Elissa needs another hair cut but I am going to make another run at hair clips. She is seeming to more tolerant and less annoyed with them. Due to floods and never ending blizzards, her 15 month appointment has been rescheduled twice but we should finally get to the pediatrician on Thursday and I think she has definitely grown like a weed since our last appointment in December. I will also have my monthly appointment with Dr. B on Thursday. 25 weeks…which I think means gestational diabetes testing…aka drinking that thick sugary liquid. Yummy. My weight gain has definitely gotten on track (and beyond). Finally no more nausea in the past month. But as soon as I can get outside for some fresh air and go on a walk I will. A regular walking routine again will make me feel so much better. My dear husband and son are on full shoveling and snow blowing duty. And I have been told NO SHOVELING for pregnant mamas. I abide although I would love the outdoor exercise.
Time for me to get onto my evening muffin making extravaganza…our community is putting on a breakfast and lunch for the next little town over that had horrible flooding ten days ago. I am making six dozen muffins to donate. Half blueberry and half chocolate chip. I have done my muffin recipe research and am going with the Cooks Illustrated version from my “American Classics” cookbook. Sorry Mother I am partial to your Marshy Blueberry Muffins but am curious to try a new recipe. Hopefully it works. I’ll do a test batch first and see how it goes. A recipe tip from my mom…enter your ingredient such “pork chops” or recipe “winning blueberry muffins” you are looking for into Google. Every relevant recipe comes up from cooks.com to allrecipes.com to foodnetwork.com and everything else in between…makes me look like a cook.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
