Birthday girl

Filed Under: Family Values Tagged With: birthdays, family fun 1 Comment

Sheer joy.
Elissa’s first present she opened tonight was a wooden sled with a padded seat from Grandpa Eldon and Grandma Carol.
Mickey and Minnie followed Elissa back from Disney World and found their way onto her birthday cake.
First bite of birthday cake. Yummy homemade cake and frosting by Grandma Carol.

Digging in…

Elizabeth loves her “Nana” as she calls her. And was busy thanking her for the cake instead of smiling at the camera.

Books from Auntie Lori

Hunter was being a good example big brother by teaching Elissa this afternoon to “put away” toys after playing. Tonight she took it all to heart and started walking with presents and putting them into her pack n play. Hilarious.

Love those blue eyes and dimples
There are two new bottom teeth that have cut through, bringing Elissa’s tooth count to eight.
Gift from Auntie Kirsti

Elissa spent most of the afternoon chasing her birthday balloons.

Look alike? Check out the above picture and now look at the below picture. Nathan said the resemblance is “amazing”. Tonight Elizabeth wore the same dress I wore on my first birthday. It was made for me by my mom. The lace on the dress was handmade by my Great-Grandma Signa (Grandpa Sonny’s mom). And my mom (a non-saver of items as am I) SAVED the dress and she saved my 1st birthday candle which I have moved with me many, many times and it has survived. It was worth it to have it all tonight for Elizabeth’s first birthday. (But don’t think for a moment that I am going to become a saver of many sentimental items…but a couple items are fun to have.)

Great-Grandpa Odin Westman (My Grandma Nola’s father, I called him Grandpa Grandpa and always miss him especially every January 13 which was his birthday one week after my birthday), Grandpa Sonny (January 18 birthday), Aunt Holly (January 16 birthday, love those glasses and perm by Grandma) and me (January 6) on our family January birthday celebration…nearly three decades ago which was (drum roll) Holly’s sweet sixteen.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
