For all of you inspired to make cut out cookies this weekend…
I doubled this recipe when we made the pumpkin cookies.
DECORATE THESE SUGAR COOKIES
1 Cup Butter or Margarine
1 egg
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
Cream butter. Gradually add powdered sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and flavorings. Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture beating well. Cover and chill at least 3 hours. Roll and cut with cookie cutters or sharp knife to make original shapes. (A steak knife works well.) Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 8 minutes.
Note: My mom got this recipe from my aunt Angie. It is the best sugar cookie I have found for cutting and frosting. They melt in your mouth.
Click for the decorator frosting recipe that I used. I tripled this recipe so we had plenty for different colors and we had plenty to use. Next time I would just double it.
