Family at the farm

Filed Under: America's Farm Table, Family Values Tagged With: agriculture, family, family farm, family fun, farming Leave a Comment

Our attempt to take a family picture together at the farm before heading to UND homecoming on Saturday morning It was 9AM and we were trying to get an 11 year old to smile while trying to keep the attention of a tired needing a nap 10 month old. Not to mention my mother running the camera! Hold down the button Mom. Happy family

Best buds…Hunter was thrilled to spend time with cousins Logan and Wyatt this weekend. We also got to meet the newest addition to their family–an adorable Chesapeake puppy named Duke. It is always a wild and fun time when the boys play together. All three boys share a love of hunting and sports. Friday night Logan slept over with Hunter at my parent’s house and Saturday they were all together my grandma’s house. They are already planning what they would be doing together at Christmas time…their hope is snowmobiling.
Elissa had plenty of cuddle time and showed off her newest trick by answering the question “What does a tractor say Elizabeth?” This was something we had been practicing and she delivered!
On Friday night we were treated a big family supper (dinners are at noon, suppers in the evening at the farm) at my parent’s house. Uncles Jim and Nathan, Cousins Logan and Wyatt, Grandpa Sonny, Grandma Nola and my parents plus Nathan, Hunter, Elizabeth and me. It was a “ethnic” meal–potato krub…potato dumplings that are very yummy when laden with melted butter plus pork roast, cranberry apple salad and a host of other side dishes. Mama Jane even had my (not Uncle) Nathan’s favorite juneberry bars for dessert.
Friday night we think was the first time ever I have been at the farm with out ANY of my siblings there with me. By Saturday night that all changed and everyone came home. Today we were all in church together and afterward we crammed the entire family around one small round table in the church basement for the harvest pot luck.
Joe drove me to the airport on his way back to UND. Nathan headed home with the kids in afternoon. And now here I sit…blogging from St. Louis on a Sunday night. A whirlwind weekend but so much fun! More pictures to follow this week.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
