Happy Syttende Mai

Happy Syttende Mai! It’s the 17th of May. Norwegian Independence Day. It is also my parent’s 33rd wedding anniversary today and we have celebrated in the past with Norwegian wedding cake being my mom’s family is full-blooded Norwegian heritage. My friends that live in other parts of the country don’t necessarily have such a strong tie to the their heritage. But on the prairies of North Dakota we are not that removed from our ancestors coming over on the boat to the US 100+ years ago and settling here. If you ask my World War II veteran Grandpa Sonny, he would say he is Norwegian even though he is also a proud American! So…even though I have never been to Norway but hope to someday and I speak all of this in Norwegian “Jeg snakker litt Norsk”, Happy Syttende Mai and more importantly Happy Anniversary to my parents, Fred and Jane. Now on to a week of baby pictures…
Last night Elissa and I were playing in the yard. And her daddy walked out the back door. She was excited to see him.
It’s finally warm enough to spend more time outside and there is a new world to discover.

Spring grass to feel

The old man neighbor Ben across the street is always doing yard work from sun up to sun down and he is quite entertaining for a baby to watch. (And also when I need a break from home office work! I will miss the constant background noise of the lawn mower, leaf blower, snow blower or shovel when I am in my office at the new house.)

After a hectic couple months, it was time for me to take some vacation time this week for some solid down time at home with Baby E and Hunter. This led to our baby being sick and tired of her mommy taking her picture!

Elizabeth Carolyn Jane, 5 months

Yummy.

Yummier.

Yummiest.

Auntie Kirsti is done with college for the summer and came to stay with us during the week. She is the summer “nanny”. She had a lot of fun dressing her niece in out fits–and as you can see in the background, we began organizing and packing to move.

Moby time. My friend Crystal sells Moby wraps which I have talked about before…I need to learn some new ways of wrapping it for a bigger baby but it is a handy thing. My mom calls me “Earth Mother” when I wear it.

A happy baby to see her Auntie Kirsti.

Grandpa Eldon read to Elissa last Sunday. We enjoyed many walks this week to visit Grandpa Eldon and Grandma Carol.

Welcome to the Prairie…

I am a mom of three kids and a wife to Nathan. Together we live on the North Dakota prairie, 97 miles from a Starbuck's. I share about family, food, farming and the prairie that I love. I used to commute 98 miles one-way to work but it required too much coffee. So now I am home, consulting, speaking, writing and primarily, juggling family life.
