Some day our home will be finished, at least enough that our workin‘ man husband and daddy and his workin‘ father don’t have their weekends consumed with house projects. Until that day arrives or is proclaimed by Nathan, we have hard workin‘ weekend project men. As you can see, our girl wants to always be in the thick of it. The latest project was Saturday morning when retaining walls were built. Miss E was armed with her hammer and ready to get to work. Thankfully she seems to have much more of her father’s building aptitude than mine which is zero to none.
(I just take pictures and provide lemonade and iced sun tea to those building.)
Indeed armed with a hammer but a very cute builder girl!
Hunter had lifted one of the retaining blocks off a pallet at the lumber yard last week. Nathan and he thought each probably weighed around 60 lbs. But they investigated online and found that each block actually weighed 83 lbs.
The math ended up being that Nathan lifted 24,000 lbs. solo on Saturday morning and early afternoon. If you want to an intense strength training program I highly recommend building a retaining wall.

Who knew the numerous color choice options of retaining blocks? We picked the tan/ charcoal blend called Dakota Blend. I know most of you are not very interested in retaining wall block colors. But I actually exchanged several emails last week with my highly intelligent engineer girl friend, Karla. She is only friend I have that is truly excited talking about retaining walls! Karla’s favorite engineer topic is waste water though. I cannot ever get overly excited about transporting waste water but I am glad some one does and knows how to take care of it. Maybe Miss E will be an engineer someday! Hunter is interested now in being a “wind engineer” which is stemmed from the hundreds of wind towers in our region.

I love the Dakota Blend. The wall looks perfectly designed and constructed …from a geeky engineer’s perspective!! I feel I must leave a comment since I was mentioned in your blog. Can’t wait to see all your house projects in person soon…along with the newest member of the Pinke family.
Take care my dear and keep your feet up!!
